SEO or Adwords?

SEO is dead, especially for a business that wants to build traffic from virtually nothing.
A typical SEO company will work out the keywords that it thinks will perform well for a site and then after a few months of you paying them, you will or will not see results.

SEO is a process of making Google rank a website on at least the first page for the keywords that a person would type in to find the website.

Google is in the business of providing the most relevant result to a users when they type a search term in. That is Googles aim, to provide users the best most useful information or products that they search for.

There are a few ways of increasing a websites perceived importance to Google.

Links to the website from other high ranking websites and mentions of your brand.
You can look at this like the other websites vouching for your website. If your website is important enough that
other people will link to it
major websites do reviews on your products
Websites mention your brand when comparing similar products
bloggers and facebook users regularly mention your brand
Google has an index of almost everything on the internet. If your brand is mentioned a lot and other websites link to your website then Google can think that your website is worthy of getting to the top.

On Page.
The content of the website. There is not really any tricks possible anymore. Google just looks at your page and wants to see that it is original content, first published by yourself, is grammatically correct with no spelling mistakes etc. That there is graphics, videos and a bunch of text on the page.
Google wants to gauge the worth of the page.

Similar to the content of a single page, all of the pages in the site are looked at in an overall sense. How much of the site is just copy/paste from somewhere else text? Is the entire website a good informative useful site?

Measurement of user interaction.
When someone clicks onto your website from a Google search results page, how long do they spend on your page? Do they visit the link from Google then straight away hit the back button and continue searching for what they want? Did the person find what they were searching for?

There used to be many tricks available to SEO people, now the best trick is to make a great website that people use.
It is a catch 22 situation that falls well into Google’s plans.

Google Adwords
With Adwords, you can skip SEO and try tomorrow a set of keywords that you THINK may perform well, perform as in turn searchers into people who buy. The keyword “Ingrown Hair” may seem like an obvious choice as a keyword to target, but how many of these people will buy? are they people who never buy anything? looking for natural remedies etc or something. The only way to find out is actually sending 100 of these people searching for that keyword to the site. “Infected Ingrown Hair” May be a keyword that every 15 people out of 100 buy a product, we can find out. To get sales really going at the moment maybe a totally different product would be better to be the focus.
